Pre-placement health assessments

Pre-placement health assessments

Undertaken after a job offer has been made, pre-placement health assessments are a highly cost-effective measure for your business. The purpose of such assessments is to ensure that the prospective employee is medically fit for the intended role. It is also important to assess whether the role will adversely affect the employee’s health. Recommendations can be made to reduce the risk to the employee, or make any workplace adjustments, if required.

Recording health information as a starting point prior to monitoring exposure to health hazards (this is called baseline testing) is also important for certain roles (e.g. hearing test for employee working in a noise hazard area). Pre-placement health assessments can be carried out through professional scrutiny of paper or online questionnaires or by medical examination.
